My research is focused on developing technology for magnetic-resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) therapies for various applications, including the design and construction of pain-specific MRgFUS devices for rapid translation to patients. Projects include imaging temperature and acoustic radiation force during focused ultrasound applications in the brain and spine, and developing new methods for monitoring ablation in and near bone. I have extensive experience with clinical FUS treatments including uterine fibroids, painful bone metastases, osteoid osteoma, desmoid tumors, and essential tremor. Preclinical research includes cervical and lumbar backpain, bone and facet joint ablation, neuromodulation, and hyperthermia. My long-term career goal is to continually contribute to the field of MR-guided ultrasound therapy and interventional MRI and to make a fundamental impact on patient care by exploring new, less invasive treatment options.
